We wanted to preserve the moment when a jellyfish appears to illuminate the water around it—a small, living light suspended in an endless ocean.

Rather than creating a bright or overpowering lamp, we imagined a softer kind of light: one that brings warmth to the darkness without disturbing the stillness around it.

For us, the jellyfish represents calmness, resilience and the ability to move gently through uncertainty.

The Strength of Softness

Although it appears delicate, the jellyfish has survived in the world’s oceans for hundreds of millions of years. It does not rely on strength or speed. Instead, it adapts to the rhythm of the water and continues moving with quiet persistence.

Its story reminds us that softness is not the same as weakness. Sometimes, the most enduring forms of strength are the ones that remain gentle.

Shaped by Natural Wood

The flowing form of the jellyfish was carefully translated into natural wood. Its rounded canopy, slender tentacles and gently curved base were designed to preserve the sense of lightness found in the original sea creature.

Even when the automata is standing still, the suspended wooden tentacles create the impression that it is floating just above the surface.

Natural wood gives the piece a warmth that cannot be replicated by plastic or resin. Its subtle grain, tonal variations and natural markings remain visible across the surface, allowing every finished jellyfish to carry its own individual character.

Because no two pieces of wood grow in exactly the same way, no two Jellyfish Automata will ever look completely identical.
